 Dogs are one of the most common types of pets among those that humans raise and take care of, and the origins of dogs go back to the wolves family, but after humans have tamed and raised them, they have become pets and coexist with humans since ancient times, and many people raise dogs mostly with the aim of Providing protection, as well as entertainment. The proverb is given by the loyalty and love of dogs to their owner, and some use them for the purpose of hunting and guarding, in addition to their use in military operations, ancient and modern.

 Dog nutrition: The type of food offered to dogs varies according to the size and age of the dog. The amount of food to be provided to a small dog differs from that of a large dog. Age also plays a major role in determining the type of dog food.

 Feeding young puppies:

 The process of feeding newborn puppies in the first three months needs careful care; The breeder must begin to transfer the puppy from the mother’s milk diet to the puppy’s diet gradually and regularly by removing him for short and then long periods from his mother.

 The importance of this step is to gradually make the puppy away from the mother's care. This process is called weaning, and it is preferable to start in the third or fourth week. There is no need to feed the puppy any additional food before weaning, but if the mother is sick and does not produce enough milk, formula milk or the veterinarian is resorted to for guidance.

 During weaning, the dog is started to be fed industrial food designed for dogs and is wetted with warm water, and the food is frequently served after weaning to maintain the level of sugar in the blood, and if any side effects occur, such as diarrhea and vomiting, the veterinarian should be reviewed as soon as possible.

 Adult dog feeding:

 The food provided to adult dogs must be sufficient to meet their energy needs, and to replace the cells and tissues of the body. The amount of food provided to the dog must be proportional to its size and energy so that it does not exceed its needs, causing it to have diseases caused by the accumulation of fat, and not less than its needs, causing it to become emaciated and weak.

 The dog’s activity varies according to its type and movement, so the breeder must determine the amount of food sufficient for his dog’s body.

 The amount of food required for the dog can be determined by the veterinarian, and this amount may increase in the winter, or when the dog is doing additional activity, or has a disease. It is usually recommended to provide two meals a day for an adult dog, with an interval of 8-10 hours between them. This method helps to control the behavior of the animal.

 Some people divide their meals into three meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and each meal has a specific time, and it varies according to the type and age of the dog. During which meals that contain raw eggs are served to be a special meal for dogs that practice violent exercises, and they are served after the sixth month of the dog’s life. Dinner with the rest of lunch, but not every day, until the age of six months.

 Dry food: 

It consists of fats, vitamins, bone powder, some dry meat, in addition to minerals, carbohydrates, and some salts in appropriate quantities, which are mixed with each other in the form of small balls. This type is characterized by the fact that it prevents weight gain, in addition to containing all the necessary nutrients.

 Canned food:

 It is a food that consists of a mixture of rice, meat, ground bones, vitamins, and salts, but this food is expensive.

Home food for dogs: 

This food is characterized by the fact that it is made by the breeder, and increases the dog’s connection with humans, and it is not expensive; Because it is most likely leftover from human eating.

 General notes on feeding dogs:

Domestic dog breeders must adhere to some important notes in maintaining good dog health, including:

 The meal should be medium to warm.

 Liver food is twice a week; So as not to raise the level of uric acid in the body.

 Stay away from home food that contains large amounts of salt or fat, especially before the age of six months.

Teaching the dog to wait until the food is placed in front of it and then instruct it to eat, so as not to endanger the breeder.

Providing good and clean water for the dog, and renewing it continuously.

Not giving the dog any additional meals that may cause an increase in fat in his body, and thus increase his weight than the normal limit.
